Kind words !

Lovely review from a recent happy client;
“David provided a great and very affordable service. Prior to the wedding he talked through what would work and then personally delivered the photos on disc in two formats afterwards, elegantly packaged with some prints as well. During the day he was very professional and had a great rapport with the guests without being obtrusive. David captured all the best moments. Thanks, Jonathan and Charlotte”

Why is it called a wedding breakfast
- By David
A question I’m often asked is why is a wedding breakfast called a breakfast, when it mostly happens in the afternoon, after the wedding ceremony. Obviously it is a tradition but one that dates back several hundred years in most Christian countries.
It is claimed that it dates back to pre-Reformation times, when the wedding service was usually a Eucharistic Mass and that the bride and bridegroom would therefore have been fasting before the wedding in order to receive communion. Thus the first meal as a married couple would be breaking their fast ! And also the priest or the minister would bless the food, which would be the first the happy couple would enjoy together, as husband and wife.
Today wedding breakfasts are a celebratory meal, taken with family and guests at the reception. And of course they vary from couple to couple. Some choose a traditional format with fine dining and a carefully thought out menu, including seating plans and a top table. While others, decided upon an informal buffet and party, reflecting diversities within modern families today.
As a wedding photographer I try and capture the details of the wedding breakfast before guests sit down, the arrival of the bride and groom and then return to the room for any speeches. The wedding breakfast is usually an important part of the day for family, relatives and friends as it gives them all a time to sit and relax and talk with each other. Also it gives me a chance to have a little break as well, during, what often is a very busy day !

As promised a few weeks back, some of my favourites from a fabulous evening at the Abhayah Liverpool venue, on Prescot Road in the Old Swan. It is a great venue and somewhere that was new to me – although I only live about ten minutes drive away. Wonderful staff and entertainment and a super friendly and up for it crowd of family and friends. Thank you to Jackie and Giuseppe for choosing me to be your wedding photographer !

D and W’s wedding at St Anthony of Padua Liverpool
- By David
It was an absolute delight to be the wedding photographer at D and W’s big day recently. They planned a small, traditional gathering at one of my favourite churches, St Anthony of Padua, here in Liverpool. An added bonus for me, it is just a mile away from my home. I had covered a christening at this splendid church a while back, so knew the layout and really looked forward to visiting again.
I met the Bride and Groom to be at the church just before a ceremony rehearsal, which gave everyone a chance to get to know each other and an opportunity to meet some other key people – the parents, bridesmaids and of course the priest.
Anyway, on to a few photographs!

Vincent Hotel Southport Wedding Photographer

Fabulous to be the photographer for Helen and Simon’s wedding in Southport. I’ve known Helen for a little while as she is a florist and owns the rather brilliant The Bloom Room in Formby. For their intimate celebration they choose The Vincent Hotel, with its fresh, stylish and contemporary interior, it made an ideal choice. And then they went on to their favourite restaurant in Birkdale Village, The Bistrot Verite. A really special, family orientated day and of course the flowers looked amazing. Congratulations guys !

DJC Wedding Photography has been shortlisted into the finals under Photographer of the Year category at The 3rd English Wedding Awards. Which is nice, as they are awards where businesses are nominated by the public – so a previous happy couple has taken a little time and added us to their list. Excellent !

Lee and Paul’s wedding at The Hard Days Night Hotel
- By David

Always exciting for me to cover weddings at The Hard Days Night Hotel. It is one of the nicest party and wedding venues in the city – lovely, super helpful staff and of course a brilliant interior, with loads of great photos of the Fab Four ! I’ve worked here as a photographer on a regular basis since it opened and it’s one of my favourites !
It was an absolute pleasure to be asked to be Lee and Paul’s wedding photographer for the day. They live in Dundee and it is a city that I have very fond memories of, as I studied there for four years at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. So I had quite a few conversations with relatives and guests remembering places (mainly pubs), in between covering their special day.
Lee wore a beautiful vintage styled bespoke dress, while the gentlemen looked super smart in matching suits. And, as a special touch the hotel upgraded them to the bridal suite, complete with a Lennon mini grand piano !
