A fabulous Southport wedding

Southport wedding photography
Another fabulous Southport wedding, with Tommy and Zereena. They had a traditional church service at St Thomas, Lydiate, followed by a classy reception at the wonderful Royal Clifton Hotel on the prom in Southport. St Thomas, Lydiate is a wonderful rural parish church and it really had a warm and welcoming feel, both during the wedding rehearsal and of course on the big day itself. While the Clifton is Southport’s premier venue for weddings and events with a choice of 11 function suites and somewhere I recommend – I’ve worked there four times now over the years.
So, despite a week of rain beforehand, Saturday was dry with great autumn sunshine. Below are a few of my highlights of a fantastic day and a couple of black and white conversions which of course were included in the wedding package.
Congratulations again to Tommy and Zereena, what a wonderful day !

A fun evening at The Liner Hotel with Stephen and Lisa
I had a great time taking photos at the wedding party of Stephen and Lisa. They got married in Spain a few weeks ago but decided to have an evening back here in Liverpool at The Liner Hotel for those friends and family who couldn’t make it abroad. They didn’t need one of my full wedding packages and contacted me about the special evening they had planned. They wanted a couple of hours of photography, to get some nice group shots of themselves and their guests and also a flavour of the celebrations; the cake, the entertainment and the dancing. We cut a deal and had a ball with loads of fun shots of themselves and their friends and family on the night. Here are some highlights.
I’ve covered three weddings over the years at The Liner Hotel, so know the venue really well – it’s great for those who want to be central and near all the transport links and the staff are fantastic. Recommended !

Mel and Ben at Combermere Abbey

Mel and Ben’s wedding photographs at Combermere Abbey
I was lucky enough to be Mel and Ben’s wedding photographer a couple of weeks back. They choose Combermere Abbey, on the Shropshire and Cheshire borders, as their venue and it was absolutely stunning. The venue has a series of cottages, so the wedding party can stay right at the venue, which is brilliant. And there are quite a few really nice hotels in the towns surrounding, so it is great location-wise. Mel and Ben booked the Gold Wedding photography package with me, so I was with them all day. We started early with the bridal preparations, in the fantastic Lodge Cottage.
We were blessed with the weather – although it was forecast rain all day, it held out until the evening. So the four piece orchestra was able to set up outside, to greet the guests and the wedding party as they approached the Glasshouse, where the ceremony took place. Also the lack of wet weather meant we could fully utilise the wonderful gardens and grounds around the venue, for some wonderful backdrops to the photography.
Mel and Ben had a great, fun packed day and it was easy to work with them, so friendly and relaxed. It was an absolute pleasure to be with them on their special day and definately the highlight of my season so far! So if you are getting married at the fantastic Combermere Abbey, please get in touch, I’m happy to discount my prices for you for this particular venue.

Wedding photography at St Pauls Church, West Derby
The lovely couple Christine and James had a traditional family wedding ceremony at their local church, St Pauls in West Derby, Liverpool, Merseyside. The weather was fabulous and we able to take some group shots in the church grounds, both before and after the ceremony. After a short afternoon break, the reception continued in the adjacent church hall. Here are a few of my favourite photographs from their big day!
Many thanks and congratulations to the happy couple!

Formby Golf Club wedding photography
Great fun day with Julie and Danny at the wonderful Formby Golf Club, near the town of Formby in Merseyside. Set in 200 acres of parkland, at the heart of England’s Golf Coast, the sophisticated Formby Hall Golf Resort and Spa offers a top class hotel and reception facilities, with outstanding leisure facilities a 18-hole Championship Golf Course. Loads of visitors from Ireland travelled to this wedding and the dancing went on late into the night. Below are the highlights – enjoy !
So congratulations to Danny and Julie on their special day at the most excellent Formby Golf Club resort, the weather was wonderful, and the dancing started earlier – fun times !

Sefton Park Wedding Photography

I recently photographed the wedding of Carl and Clare at Christ the King Church , with their reception at one of the grand hotels on the edge of Sefton Park here in Liverpool. The day began with Clare and her family and friends preparing for the wedding at home. Then it was posh cars to the church for a fabulous ceremony – the family are regular visitors so the place was packed with well wishers. Also there was a surprise performance from a school’s choir.
Fairy Glen in Sefton Park
Then it was off to the Fairy Glen in Sefton Park for some lovely outdoors portraits of both the happy couple and their close family and friends. We were really lucky with the weather as the rain held off for this part of the day. Finally, a short drive led us our final venue, the Blenheim Lakeside Hotel for the evening reception and party !
A few samples of photographs from the day are below. They include some preparation and detail photos, posed couple photos and reportage photos, which complete the story of the day. Also included is a page design from their final album.

Harriet and Sam marry at Hope Street Hotel
I had an instant rapport with Harriet and Sam when I met them for a free consultation – they seemed relaxed and organised about their wedding and had some strong opinions and ideas about the photography that they wanted. Their’s was very much a city wedding, taking in the sights of Liverpool and using one of the finest boutique hotel venues for their reception, the Hope Street Hotel.
The ceremony took place at the Cotton Exchange in the centre of Liverpool.
The Hope Street Hotel has recently added a roof-top terrace where the wedding reception took place. The views over Liverpool were stunning!
Many thanks to Harriet and Sam for inviting me to a part of their special day. It was quite magical.

Hard Days Night Hotel wedding photography

Hitched at the Hard Days Night Hotel!
Many years in the planning, the Hard Days Night Hotel is located in a converted 1884 building in the city the Beatles made famous. The venue has loads of original Beatles related photographs and prints and is amazing to wander around. Even some of the guest bedrooms are musically themed. It is a fantastic venue for a wedding and I was lucky enough to be the wedding photographer for Andrea and John on their special day.
The ceremony was held in Hard Days Night Hotel’s intimate chapel. So it was good, as all the guests were in one place for the whole day and no transport was required from venue to venue.
After the ceremony, the guests relaxed with a few drinks, while Andrea and John took me on a tour of the John Lennon-themed bridal suite. It is complete with a mini-grand piano – white of course. Also it gave us a chance to get some lovely relaxed portraits and give the happy couple a few moments to relax away from the crowds.
The reception went on into the night and I was there to capture the arrival of the evening guests and the bride and groom’s first dance. The venue transforms it’s ‘chapel’ into a great evening dancing venue and of course, during the room change around, it gives the guests an opportunity to check the couple of intimate bars in the hotel. It also meant I could have a short, but necessary break !
Congratulations and many thanks to Andrea and John. A truely wonderful day, with them and their kind families and friends.
