Vincent Hotel Southport Wedding Photographer
- By David
Fabulous to be the photographer for Helen and Simon’s wedding in Southport. I’ve known Helen for a little while as she is a florist and owns the rather brilliant The Bloom Room in Formby. For their intimate celebration they choose The Vincent Hotel, with its fresh, stylish and contemporary interior, it made an ideal choice. And then they went on to their favourite restaurant in Birkdale Village, The Bistrot Verite. A really special, family orientated day and of course the flowers looked amazing. Congratulations guys !

DJC Wedding Photography has been shortlisted into the finals under Photographer of the Year category at The 3rd English Wedding Awards. Which is nice, as they are awards where businesses are nominated by the public – so a previous happy couple has taken a little time and added us to their list. Excellent !

Lee and Paul’s wedding at The Hard Days Night Hotel
- By David

Always exciting for me to cover weddings at The Hard Days Night Hotel. It is one of the nicest party and wedding venues in the city – lovely, super helpful staff and of course a brilliant interior, with loads of great photos of the Fab Four ! I’ve worked here as a photographer on a regular basis since it opened and it’s one of my favourites !
It was an absolute pleasure to be asked to be Lee and Paul’s wedding photographer for the day. They live in Dundee and it is a city that I have very fond memories of, as I studied there for four years at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. So I had quite a few conversations with relatives and guests remembering places (mainly pubs), in between covering their special day.
Lee wore a beautiful vintage styled bespoke dress, while the gentlemen looked super smart in matching suits. And, as a special touch the hotel upgraded them to the bridal suite, complete with a Lennon mini grand piano !

Lifestyle photo shoot checklist

Getting the best out of our photo sessions involves a little planning on your part. Sorting out the details will mean the shoot goes perfectly and you end up with some wonderful photos to last a lifetime!
Eat, drink and sleep well
All are necessary for life, as well as good portrait sessions! Seriously, plan an early night the day before out session, adults as well as children. As rested means relaxed. And don’t turn up hungry – have some high-energy drinks and snacks on hand – Dad will appreciate it!
Organising your families clothes
Choose clothes that people feel relaxed in and plan colours to match as a group, rather than just for the individual. Get everything ready beforehand and bring some alternatives, just in case of accidents! I’d avoid brand names and logos as they tend to date the photographs and stick with solid neutral coloured items.
Bring along some props
This could be as simple as a child’s favourite toy. Or a piece of sports equipment. Something that makes the image unique to you guys and helps people relax. Perhaps a favourite book, or something from nature. I’ll have suggestions but you know your family better than me! Go creative!
Arrive on time
Fairly obvious but arriving in rush, not only cuts into your time on location but makes everyone a little stressed and trust me, this comes out in the pictures. So get there ten minutes early, have a look around, I’ll be there and we can plan out some poses and have a bit of ‘getting to know each other’ time.
Have a laugh!
Fun and laughter all make great photography. If Mum and Dad are relaxed and having fun, often means the little ones will too. And I promise not to tell too many rubbish jokes!
Finally, keep an eye on my site and Facebook pages
I’ll post up a sneak-peek as quick as I can online (as long as you are cool with this) – so please have a look and give it some sharing love to friends and relatives! Once I’ve finished editing the images you will have your own password protected online gallery and of course all of them on a CDR or USB pen ready for printing.
